This sounds like an interesting show but I doubt it comes up to the intellectual level of shows like Pawn Stars or Storage Wars.
That type of show is the worst offender. Reality shows, UFOs, bigfoot, and ghosts apparently are considered history.
One of the things that attracted me to the ancient coin community is that most of us are very passionate about the hobby and the history surrounding it. When collectors get together we talk coins, not Kardashians.
There's going to be 10 part series on History depicting the Roman-era barbarian tribes called Barbarians Rising. I know not many on here are into barbarian history but I certainly can't wait (and am hoping they don't mess this up).
That sounds phenomenal. As for me, it's not that I'm not interested in the history, I just don't collect much of the coinage.
I watch Pickers too, which I prefer over Pawn Stars. Its really just something to watch. So many shows I watch on regular tv just got cancelled today, darn ABC Network.
To be honest, I don't have a big problem with reality shows like these, but there is a time and place for them. Perhaps a channel with the word 'history' in the title isn't the best one? Thank God for PBS.
Just dropping in to say that between 'making coin collecting great again' and the 'how did they build everything' meme JA got two out-loud laughs from me in about ninety seconds, which is pretty good for a message board on coins. As far as high_rating_etc goes, my main issue with him is that his thousands and thousands of coins clutter up my ebay browsing. That said, I bought my first Greek from him, and at a good price. When it comes to messing up the hobby, I'm not sure what I'm rooting for there. If everyone collected ancients, most would float out of my price range. But then, the hobby is seriously enriched by people who participate in places like this board. It's a balancing act, I guess.
Everyone should make an offer of $1000, like Rick did...BTW, how much do people here think would be a good price?
The $1,500 Vagi quoted was exactly right for retail in my experience. But, the archives are easy to check: http://cngcoins.com/Search.aspx?PAG...R_TYPE_ID_2=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_4=1
True, but nat geo, travel channel and many others are not what they were back then. I just watch roadshow on pbs. When I watched it I guessed $1500 too.
You do know that "Pawn Stars" (and "Storage Wars") are not 'reality' shows but are 'staged' to look like 'reality' shows, even though the store and the cast on Pawn stars are real?
