I’ve always been interested in how the empires navigated through the tough times and how imperial influence was exerted on the edges of the empire - whether Classical Roman or Byzantine (I know some see no difference but that is not the point here). I recently ran across a relatively recent series of references on Byzantine coins - minted in the “on and off” edges of the empire (e.g. Italy). Lead author is Alberto D’Andrea. Is anyone familiar with the series and do you have an opinion on its value, for example, does it provide any historical background? It is hard to tell from the snippets I see on various websites. Thanks.
