I know they had a Shekel of Tyre on for one episode and they sent it out to be slabbed. I was really confused when they sent the coin to PCGS for authentication when usually most people would send Ancient's to NGC. It was all drama filled because the Shekel had once been stolen from a collector and then showed up in their shop from a guy who had bought it from a guy who bought it from the thief etc. Turns out the original collector was compensated through insurance and they were allowed to keep the coin after all. I enjoyed the episode because I was fairly confident that they had overpaid from what little they showed of the coin and then I read a review on a random blog about the episode who concurred
If the owner of the stolen coin was compensated by the insurance company for its theft, I would think that the insurance company is now the legal owner of the coin forcing the pawn shop to turn it over to the insurance company without compensation. Am I wrong?
I missed it, but I don't care. That business about the Tyrian shekel was such a bunch of staged and uninformed nonsense that it just pissed me off.
It was a gold Constantine IX. Rick paid $1100 for it, Vagi came in after it was bought and told him its worth $700-$1000 cause there is little market for them. Rick figured cause it was old...yeah....
Whats even more funny is his voiceover mentioned "I have to send it in for grading". I just cringed when I heard that.
