Who says government bureaucrats can't do a superb job of working at cross purposes?

Our local train station uses machines that give change in Dollar coins. Maybe that is a way to replace trips to the post office, just go for a train ride every now and then. :)

But how many cities have train stations compared to how many have post offices?

Another god example of working at crosspurposes. This was also around 2007. The government specified at all vending machines in governemnt building must have coin mechanisms that were capable of accepting the small dollars (Not a problem because all such mechanisms made since 1979 will do so.) but did not require this capablitly to be turned on. (The mechanisms typical come from the factory with it turned off.) Furthermore they also required that all the machine by fitted with equipment to allow them to accept dollar bills. So much for encouraging th circulation of the coin.

I am just thankful that this feature is turned on where I work. I have used the dollar coins quite often. Sure beats putting other combinations of coins for a $1 candy bar that I can buy at the store for 50 cents.
