Buying Silver from tellers

    I've never tried large dollar coins, so I asked a good friend of mine, who is a manager for US Bank, do they ever see large dollar coins and do they stock them. He called the vault and they said whatever they get goes back to the federal reserve. They never keep them and they don't order them.

    These things have been out of circulation more than 35 years. You're lucky to find them at all. I sometimes have found several hundred of them in some remote branch of one of my commercial banks. A lot of coin machines won't even take them - so tellers will end up with them which you really are doing them a favour by buying them because they don't want to have to account for them every day.

    I have no idea how many I have found over the years. I haven't counted them in years, just know they number in the thousands. I even found a 1922 Peace with some Ikes a couple of years ago. So now you know where they are all hiding. In my vault.
