Sorry, but don't agree with you. Let's see, I have been a member of this forum since Feb 2005. I visits this forum every day, reading the postings I am interested in. I have just over 200 personal posting because I normally don't respond unless I believe I can add something to the forum discussion. But according to your thoughts, I should NOT be allowed to post in the classifieds. IMHO I believe the peer pressure of this forum will put a stop to any member for ripping off another member and I trust the mods to handle this forum to get rid of those member who violate the forum rules. It also should be a matter of personal choice and personal responsibility to deal with a member who has limited numbers of posting. BTW: I have not had a bad experience purchasing from members of this forum.
farstaff...agreed...until couple weeks back rarely posted anything, just looked, learned and wowed at the neat coins...#posts doesnt = honesty...but it helps
touchy subject....but agree w/ Ltrain if there is a sneak it may be good to stop and expose him asap (while somehow doing it "respectfully" )
Someone is gonna get burned badly, it's inevitable. I've seen it happen tons of times on all kinds of other forums from car forums to computer forums to phone forums and now, coin forums, if Abe's untold story pans out. To back up my argument, let's say that you would have to have to be a member for one year and have 500 posts, with exceptions being able to be granted by moderators and admins. You can still buy from the classifieds, (I would assume most pay first, then the seller ships) you just can't sell anything. Add in an additional exemption for people who have purchased 3 items off of sellers who are considered reputable people on the forums. Basically, the reason I feel a post count limit is good because it shows that person makes an effort to integrate themselves into the community, rather than just chipping in their two cents here and there.
Post count means nothing. I had low post count when I bought/sold on here and it was a solid experience several times.
I would like to believe everyone is honest and fair. I have had a couple bad swap experiences here though. Things were sent and nothing returned, but the value was minimal. BUT I had one guy send me coins twice when the first envelope arrived torn and empty. So I had both good and bad experiences. More hurt feelings over the breech of trust than monetary. I suggest getting to know who you are dealing with any time larger sums of money are involved. Some people do strange things and act in less than honorable ways when money comes into the picture. IMHO gary
I agree that you shouldn't wait.. Especially with limited members from Canada, and even fewer who would be known as "Canadian". I am Canadian, and everyone knows it. So a post like this would automatically point a proverbial finger at me(and the other active Canadian members). I suggest you rat the guy out.
Well, we were having a nice, friendly conversation. Then you had to go and pull out a personal attack. I'm done with this thread, and you can enjoy a nice, warm spot on my ignore list. Might want to learn how quote tags work, by the way. At least I can get that right.
Sorry, there was no personal attack intended. I just gave my opinion, like you gave your opinion. Guess that why I hardly post in the forum.
I'm sorry, but saying that someones opinion isn't even worth 2 cents is blatantly disrespectful. Regardless, apology accepted. Don't restrain yourself from posting, even if you don't really have much to add. It's always good to have another opinion and point of view, and you might even have a little fun... all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, ya know.
I like the flexibility that comes from this forum. I placed an add, but worked out a trade with another forum member. This would be considered fee avoidance on EBay. But because there are no fees (at least the way I used it), it's perfectly acceptable here. It's like any group of acquaintances though, some are trustworthy friends and some are merely arms length acquaintances depending on the character they show as you get to know them. You can't put faith in ANYONE you haven't taken the time to know is trustworthy.
Yes! Sort of. You can get an idea of a persons reputation from those who have had past dealings with him. Once again though, you have to be comfortable with the source of the references for that reputation. I will be specific. I traded with 900fine, who I did not know 6 months ago, but who I came to know from his posts and had a GREAT reputation among his peers. There are others who have exposed themselves to be little short of con men looking for a sucker as well. I will not point these out and create needless controversy, but it takes little work to find out their reputation using the search feature and reading the posts following their incredible statements. Of course there are always those with disagreements, even among honorable people.
I have had very positive dealings with two members. :thumb: Nothing online is guarunteed but, I think you can get a pretty good idea about a seller by reviewing their old posts.
True.... Theres a guy around here named "Harvey" I'm not sure I trust... I've never seen him post, but I've heard some rough things about the guy...
