Since there are no new orders, the Mint produces just enough coins to keep their employees occupied. The Fed gets these coins, but can't distribute them because of the <b>damn coin collectors</b>. They try releasing some through Puerto Rico, but the Numismatic crowd catches on quickly.</p><p><br /></p><p>The Fed increases their orders for coins in 2010 and 2011 so they don't make that same mistake again, but they still can't get rid of the 2009 coins without widespread hoarding...so they just release the 2010s and 2011s. In the meantime, it's now 2013 and Congress comes to their senses. They decide to <span style="color: #ff0000"><b>eliminate 1¢, 5¢, and 10¢ coins</b></span>. Now that the 2009 coins are no longer legal tender, the Fed can't release them...so they're destroyed.
