Hi all, i am new to the gold business... just read maybe couple hours about it. And what i read is that u always get a number on ur gold, when u buy it? I live in indonesia (a 3d world country) and don't trust the banks here (got experience already). But to keep like 20.000USD back home... thats like 4KG of bills in two plastic bags... Better to hide gold... anyway... My local friend went to the next shop and got 100g. This shop already exists since long time he told me. It looks like that one on the picture. They just cut it off from a 1KG barrel... It cost 48.000.000 Rupia (5100USD or 4000Euro) They say its 99,999... Gold is gold... with or without paper... so i thought its ok. But how is it when i want to sell it again in Europe for example? Is it ok to buy it there? Or what would u advice me? I would like to get more but not sure if i should. in most of the world people like to see some mark on the gold. who made it and the purity if it's not a coin.
I would purchase gold coins from other countries unless you are fearful of the mail. Buying random chunks of gold can be risky. How could you know the purity with any certainty. If you have no other choice, get a stone and some acid to test the gold when you buy it.
Hey Peak, welcome to CT. You will learn a lot here. Just make sure to filter out the information and use your common sense. About your gold, I agree gold is gold. But people generally need to be assured that the gold is real and not fake when it comes to selling or buying. If you have bought that gold, just hope and pray that it is pure gold. Next time though, try to get pure gold from Indonesian brand such as Antam gold. It comes with certificate, numbered, and purity on each bar. Other option is to get gold dinar. Last but not least, I am sure there are places where you can get well known international gold coins such as American gold eagle, Canadian maple leaf, south African Kruger, Australian lunar or kangaroo, etc. Also, you should find international brand bars such as Perth mint, Credit Suisse/PAMP. Coins are usually preferable than bars because of guarantee from the corresponding sovereign country minting those coins. Best of luck for your future purchase and enjoy!
