Between this thread and @Fabrosee 's half, I think I need an aspirin. Tired dies on @micbraun 's coins??
On the 1808 the stars are drawn to the edges and on the 1818 there are a couple of prominent die cracks. So yes, tired dies is correct… can you be more precise though?
Well, I'm thinking they are quite possibly the same grade - VF25 maybe?, in spite of the strike differences. I'll look some more when the day's work is done if I can still function.
Correct, both graded VF30 by PCGS. Note that due to the weak strike they may appear more worn than they actually are. Anything else?
Both late die states? Lovely coins by the way. ETA- oh, longshot said that already. Hmmm... looking for the word terminal?
Correct, both were certified as O-104a, however the 1818 is a very late die state and should have been called O104b. You’re next
I was hoping this thread might grow legs, but it seems to have died. Here's another one, These 3 coins have something in common. What?
Thanks for the bump, Frank. As a not so strong hint, there are other coins that also fit this question---I just happened to have these examples handy.
1826 O-103 - minted in 1827 1827 O-108 - minted in 1828 1834 O-119 - minted in 1835 I believe all were minted a year later than the date would suggest.
