Round two of sending coins to ICG. This time, I’m sending in 50 of the same coin, still in their original bank rolls. Germany 2002-J (Hamburg) 2€ coins.

    IMG_1381.jpeg

Why? Because I think both rolls are all DDOs (both ends showing the obverse are). I’ve been specifically hunting these coins since around five years ago, when I first found a DDO. Here’s a link to when I first mentioned them.
    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/2002-j-germany-2-euro-coin-stages-of-ddo.332806/

Once they’re back, I’ll share an update as well as photos of the doubling on the coins. Considering I’m in Europe and I just mailed them today, I don’t expect to see them until the new year. Until then, keep an eye out for this coin if you come across euros often!

ICG has confirmed they received the coins! They’re always so prompt with notifying.

ICG emailed me today to confirm my mailing address (it’s a bit strange so this doesn’t surprise me). Just replied, so hopefully I’ll get the final bill and details on the coins with shipping info tomorrow!

If I may ask, why did you choose ICG ?

I checked them out and found them to an alternative to the more expensive graders. Maybe that's why they did it???

If it were me..LOL , and I wanted to maximize the value I would pay a little more
and submit to PCGS you always get more for there slab on resale :)

Yes, but if it were me and it wouldn't be, I wouldn't submit 2 rolls of POSSIBLE DDO's without checking or verifying. Too risky and expensive lesson.

The question why not check them ? seems so obvious but again I am probably missing something as usual..LOL

@mpcusa I completely understand your question.

I chose ICG for my first submission of Buffalo nickels because of their low price, expert knowledge, and conservation abilities (in my opinion on par with NGC’a conservation). Admittedly, @Insider is the only person here that I know of that actively works for a TPG, but he’s impressed me with his posts on CT.

I chose to go to ICG again for this submission, because I know what I have and don’t need PCGS or NGC to validate that. I understand that ICG can sometimes be too lenient on grading, but these coins are all UNC and I’ve seen PCGS and NGC all get it wrong. ICG had great customer service and great turnaround times compared to my and others’ experiences with NGC, PCGS, and ANACS (I have only personally submitted 2x coins to NGC and 10-15x coins to ANACS).

I wanted these coins protected so I can pass them around, mail them to other error collectors, and study them more. Even if grading only cost me $10/coin, submitting 40 coins would still total $400 + shipping both ways. I consider that a lot of money and know submissions to PCGS or NGC would cost much more than that. I feel I can now comfortably sell these coins for $20-30. This keeps them affordable to the average collector, while still leaving room for me to get a little extra coin money. If you told me I could buy a slabbed, uncirculated DDO from a country for just $20, I would happily do it. :)

It is my opinion that those who are numismatists and have solid understanding of errors and varieties also have a solid knowledge of grading and are sensible enough to buy the coin and not the slab. Those who care enough about NGC and PCGS will simply crack them out and submit them theirselves. Those who do not have sufficient knowledge are likely to accept the ICG slab, especially at such a low cost.

Apparently I submitted 50 coins. Must’ve thought of 40 because I recently roll hunted half dollars. I feel silly now asking them to explain the costs to me. Whoops! Fortunately, they’re quite kind and didn’t give me a hard time. I have been billed and am just waiting on the notification of the grades!

My ICG report! I want to start by saying that if you are looking to have coins slabbed, certified, attributed, or conserved, I 100% recommend you submit your coins to ICG.

My coins arrived to ICG on December 23. I got email confirmation from ICG that they arrived. They attributed, graded, and had them ready to ship by January 9th, sending me a confirmation email as well. Throughout the time the coins were there, ICG was prompt and courteous in notifications and responses to any inquiries. Considering the coins arrived two days before Christmas, I cannot believe it was a two-week turnaround. I will provide images when the coins arrive.

And now, a few reasons I highly recommend ICG:
    • ICG has the best prices I have seen. They even offer a CoinTalk discount.
    • ICG’s customer service is second to none. I have submitted to ANACS and NGC and ICG blows them out of the water.
    • Their turnaround time is fast!
    • They are experts and professionals. @Insider is the only grader that I know of that interacts with us and shares his knowledge. There is no doubt he knows his stuff.
    • ICG is great at conservation. In my own experience, they did an incredible job with my buffalo nickel submission.
    • They truly are a company that supports the collectors.
