The thing is like Books said is not all slabs are equal when it's time to sell . PCGS and NGC will always bring the best prices followed by ANACS and a few others . ANACS has been grading on par , at least to my eyes , lately but still sell for a discount because of the presumption a lot of collectors have that they are inferior .
Not with a first time submitter that doesn't even have enough coins to qualify for a bulk submission.
Thanks Bill- I have no experience submitting to anacs, and I appreciate your insight. I think I am leaning toward submitting the top 20 to pcgs and go from there. Hopefully I can get a better deal than $20/ per coin. If I was to get all @ms66 could probably sell 2-4 or so to recoup the money and the rest would be gravy.Kind of like your plan in reverse... If I got lucky and got a 67 or two I would declare victory and celebrate!
All I will add to this discussion are the following thoughts: 1) Just because you call one TPG and get a quote doesn't mean you have to submit the coins to that TPG. It can now be used as a bargaining tool with the TPG you really want your coins in. I'm not knocking any particular TPG, or recommending any particular TPG...just offering advice to a new member to help save YOUR money. Which, I'm guessing, doesn't grow on a tree in your back yard, or you wouldn't have asked the question in the first place. 2) I have submitted coins at bulk rates without being a dealer and without having the required number of coins according to "the rules." You just have to be polite and take the time to find the right person to approve the best deal. If saving $500-$700 on grading fees isn't worth three or four phone calls...I don't know what is. And once you get it done, and you know you can get it done...it's hard to go back to full price. 3) If you do get a bulk submission rate, make sure to specify a minimum acceptable grade on the form so they don't grade you a bunch of MS62's or lower that will be hard as heck to move and still recover your money. I wish you the best of luck!
Update- selected my fave 20 and submitted them 5-18-16. The report from pcgs just came back: ms64=1 ms65=15 ms66=3 details=1 (damaged?!?) mildly disappointed, was hoping the 65 and 66 numbers would be flipped...
