Yes, I think you should. Later on down the road as you get more money, perhaps a good job, you can upgrade the Whitman folders (which don't protect your coins really well) to Dansco or similar albums, which provide good protection. For now, the Whitmans ought to be sufficient for the organization of your collection.

    Dont do that! Please dont.
I bought one at walmart to roll all my coins in my pocket when i get home and when i rack upped about $500 (1 year or so) i change them in.
**(This was before i started collecting coins and didnt check my pocket when i got home so now i feel like kicking my self for giving away $500 of coins for bills and not knowing whats in there)**
It was a huge hassle becaause it rolled them liek 50 cents of pennys would be 51 or 48 and $10 of quarters is like 9.75
I had to go home and unwrap everything. Although now that i am a coin collector i see that as god punishing me for not double checking the coins, It is still a hassle.

Well, usually those Whitman folders come with instructions on how to properly put the coins into them, but it's definitely more of a pain than it looks. Best advice I can give here is to take your time with it, be careful, and give it your best shot. I would consider the Whitmans only temporary storage solutions, anyway.

The Whitmans aren't great for protection because they're half exposed. When you pop them into their individual slots, you are only ensuring protection of one side of the coin (presumably the reverse, if you put them in the way I would imagine you would). That's why I say they're only good for temporary storage. It's much more protected if you get something like a Dansco Album with the slide-out plastic sheaths that allow you to protect (and see) both sides of the coin. That's why I store all my coins in Dansco, rather than Whitman. It looks nicer, it protects the coins better, and it's LONG TERM storage. But beware - it's pretty expensive. I have the Lincoln Cent, Buffalo Nickel, Jefferson Nickel, Mercury Dimes, Roosevelt Dimes, Washington Quarters 1932-1998, Washington Quarters Statehood Designs 1999-2008, Kennedy Half Dollars, and Cents Plain albums, and at $20 or more a pop, the investment has been about $175 in albums. I consider it worth it though, and I would advise the investment when you have to funds to do so.
