I was curious can storing BU in a jug made of glass or plastic tarnish them over time or spot them? or are they different than .999? I know the condition doesn't really matter as I have circulated Mercury Dimes and Halves but prefer ''fresh'' when possible for example BU Roosevelt dimes or 40% Kennedy halves are not hard to get or that expensive
You should not have any problems storing UNC silver in a glass jar; just make sure the jar is clean and not in a humid/hot place. Also they could get a little beat up in there; but it shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't move/shake the jar. Silver also isn't very likely to tarnish in glass jars as there is less contact with chemicals compared to cardboard/paper/plastic. Your best bet is to keep it in a sealed mason jar or something like that. I would suggest against using plastic as it is more than likely that it has plasticizers that can cause chemical damage over time.
It will tarnish eventually, but you can always bring it back to life with this stuff use it for my bars that have collected for years
They are silver and being exposed to the air will cause them to tarnish. A quick dip in ezest would remove the tarnish but if not done correctly it will ruin the luster.
Coins can continue to tarnish even in a air tight environment, even grade coins tarnish and not the good kind..LOL
Is the goal to tarnish them? Air tight, low humidity and temperature swing control are the most important for avoiding tarnish.
I have stored BU coins in non-pvc plastic bags for decades with no adverse reaction. Plastic bags are great because you can remove all of the air. Sure, near heat or light it could be a problem, but they will be problems without plastic bags anyway.
I have used plastic film canisters to store silver dimes (and other foreign denominations that will fit) for years. The snap top shuts out the air and the opaque coloring of the canister keeps out sunlight.
