    Hi all,
today I bought a 1968 Sovereign for 3% over spot. It has a picture of the queen on the front. Is this strictly a bullion coin? At the coin store, he also had 193X or 194X sovereigns with (i believe) George on it. I don't think it was edward. This coin he was charging a little bit extra so I went with the queen. Could anyone tell me if there is any numismatic premium for either of these coins.

Which coin would you have picked?
    Thanks

Yes there is a premium on quality coins. Many folks collect Sovereigens.

I have always been surprised that common pre-1933 British sovereigns have very little premium. Of course, higher graded sovereigns, MS-63 and above, begin to command a premium.

The premium doesn't start until the Pre-1887 Victorias with the shield reverse. Then, common sovereigns begin to gain a premuim (albeit slowly).

Of course, the earlier William IV and Georges IV and III sovereigns start to get pricey.

Before 1817, the Guinea was the main gold coin.

    Brit coins: What fun. :thumb:
