I believe most of those actual treasure ships traveled as a convoy with military escort. Not something a pirate or individual privateer would try and take on (they would most likely be seriously out gunned). Now another naval force would be a different matter. I'm sure a lot more treasure ships were lost to hurricanes than naval attack, and a lot more than to pirates/privateers. And I believe most actual pirate action ended by the end of the 17th century
I do not disagree with that at all, none the less it did happen. Drake for instance attacked the Spanish ships so often that the Spanish began to call him El Draque - The Dragon. And if you look it up, pirates and privateers flourished into the 1800's. But I grant you it was not as common as in earlier centuries.
Plenty of pirates still around. Just a lack of a suitably tough approach. Paying them off just encourages them.

British beer is served at cellar temperature, which is much like room temperature. Only beers that you really do not want to taste are served very cold.
