Hi everybody! Bought several early British and Canadian coins this morning. Just wanted to get the community's input with regards to the rarity, desirability, collectibility and value that could be expected from these coins. Hope to hear from you. Thanks
Cool pick ups! I'm not experienced enough with these to go to deeply into value or rarity, but I do remember being kinda surprised how inexpensive some of the farthings, half pennies, and pennies when I was trying to find some of those from early in Victoria's reign earlier this year.
Eh, hopefully you didn't pay too much for them... lol And remember you can always show her pics of some really expensive coins you didn't buy so she can see how responsible you really are...
I'm down $25. Hopefully I didnt overpay. If I did, it's gonna be just between us and the coin talk community.lol
I beat up 1864 indian head and 1912 V nickel was included in that price. Anyway, as far as my wife know, $10 was all it took. And Im standing by it.
I found several in my grabdpappys things - They all kind a look like they have rainbows on them I don't know what's going on
Unless the 1797 is a 2 pence (which is a very large coin) you paid too much. Pretty much all of these except the Canadian 1854 are the type of coins often found in dealer's junk bins for 25 cents each or so. People do collect them but they're just not rare.
The 1797 is really cool. I bought one for about $30 if it is a two pence, how big is it compared to the others?
I honestly don't think the OP overpaid that much. That 1912 Penny is pretty nice (wouldn't mind seeing a better photo of it by itself...and make sure it's not an H mint - if it is, turn that frown upside down. I feel like even without the H it's still a $10-15 coin as an AU.) The few 1700's coins would probably sell at an auction for $3-5 each, as might the New Zealand 1946 Half Penny, and the rest of the lot would bring another $5-10 depending on what kind of auction crowd you have. Just my opinion, but I think you bought a few fun items (the 1700's) and one really nice coin (the 1912 Penny). If you enjoy them, just remember next time to try to get the price down a little lower, sell off all the junky coins that you don't care about, and try to get your money back while keeping the best 2-3 coins for your collection.
Looks like a 1797 cent coin, 1799 half-cent and a 1929 half-cent. BTW George III was king during the American Revolution.
The large One Pence weighs one ounce, the Two Pence weighs two ounces. That`s how you tell the difference. You paid well over. Over in the UK all those coppers would go in my scrap copper bin, I weigh in about 100-150 kg per year.
