It is a “HAIF DOLLAR”. Not sure that is an actual denomination...

A grease filled die at the eagle's head. Interesting coin, but not worth more than a "Haif Dollar".

    A true story . . .

On a family vacation in Mexico about a dozen years ago, we visited an Eco-Tourism Park and had lunch in their cafeteria. My youngest daughter, about 8 at the time, took one of my Jackson’s to get herself a dessert, and came back to me with the change. I immediately identified the Hamilton as a crude counterfeit.

While I was deliberating over how to approach the cashier about the fake bill, my oldest daughter who would now be 31 (God rest her soul) grabbed the bill from my hand and immediately went and spent it on something insignificant . . . A candy bar, I think . . . and got real bills back in change from a different cashier.

Quick thinking on her part. I was busy thinking of something she obviously wasn’t . . . How to get our cash back without passing money I knew was not real . . . An unfounded concern in a country where corruption seems to be a way of life . . . Among government officials anyway.
