You're assuming Guth can garner support for his system. I wouldn't bet on it.

 

There is absolutely NOTHING fundamentally wrong with a 70 point system that better and more consistent grading won’t fix. Thirty more grading points is just 30/70=42.85% more opportunities to get the grade wrong.

 

Exactly. It’s almost a 100 point system anyway with plus grades and there’s really no reason to expand to 100 when all 70 aren’t even used

 

There was a lot of talk about this on the PCGS forum until it just went dark.

 

We can’t even get our old guard dinosaurs to accept that technical grading above AU55 is dead. Until they accept that (or all die off), any other change is premature.

 

I was wondering when it would end the thread over there.It didn't seem to be much for the company and its action.

 

Agreed and switching to 100 is really just change for the sake of change anyway.

Those who believe that this will have no effect on the TPG companies and the value of their products will have ample opportunities to purchase the short sales of those who are betting against the TPG. I'll be sitting it out and watching closely. Stating that there is no fundamental reason to change will be a revelation to the folks who used to make VCRs; used to make land line telephones and phone booths; used to make truck toppers and camper shells; used to make any number of things where there was no fundamental reason to change. Change occurs whenever anybody sees an opportunity and seizes it. Sometimes change happens because the owners of a monopoly are so obnoxious that their entire customer base jumps ship at the first opportunity when a competitor arrives on the scene. If I live long enough I will see that happen to Microsoft and face book.

 

My TPG will rank all the coins starting with the all time finest as #1.
Your coin will just have a serial number.
Owners will be able to challenge the next higher coin in a live twitter feed where members vote.
Dealers count as 1/4 a person.
Smack talking is encouraged.

Would or could Hall have administrative access to the PCGS forum and shut it down? Probably not but termination doesn't sound like a peaceful word. Gotta be some hard feelings.

 

Neither TPG-captive discussion board is worth the powder it’d take to blow up their servers, and I have an account on each. This place is marginally better only because I have an especially discerning eye. LOL.
