    New acquisitions!

Two "patacões" (960 reis) as we call them here in Brazil

The first was issued in 1815, during the reign of Queen Dona Maria I, under the regency of her son Don John of Braganza. Unfortunately, it is not possible to know the mint, but it could be from Bahia or Rio de Janeiro.

The second was issued in 1820, at the Bahia mint, during the reign of King Don John VI. At that time, Brazil was part of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarves.

Although there was a cleaning, I bought it for a good price.

Weren't these overstruck on Spanish Milled Dollars (8-reales)?

Nice coins. The only one I have owned was this holed example, which I wore on my old "Holey Coin Vest". As I recall, you could see faint traces of the undertype on it.

PS- I think it's great to "meet" a CoinTalker from Brazil!

Sometimes the toning will also accentuate some elements of the undertype

@matheus Something that reveals the mint where the coin was minted is the cross of the Order of Christ on the reverse side. On the coins from Rio de Janeiro, the base is a trapezoid. On the coins from Bahia, the base of the sphere is a triangle.

    Your coin is from Bahia.
