I just found a modern (1994 D) Lincoln penny that is a different color than all other pennies I have ever seen. It is more yellowish / brass color as opposed to the usual copper / reddish. It seems to be made of different alloy. It is not surface-polished. The coin is the same color below the surface. Is this unusual? Have you ever ran into something like that before?
I have seen some like that...most of the time they have been cleaned I think some of the time its storage too....... Speedy
If I understand you correctly - you are saying the coin is a normal color under the surface color. If this is the case - then I would be inclined to agree with Speedy - the coin has likely been cleaned or at the least dipped. Copper reacts very strangely with some chemicals. It can turn all sorts of colors.
I agree. I hear rumors every so often of brass cents made during the late 90's. Never seen one with my own eyes.
The "Brass Cent" of the 90's are an error caused by the coins sitting in a chemical bath. The zinc and the copper collect in the tank and coat the coin with the "Brass". You wouldn't see this error on the pre-zinc pennies. -- Brian --
I have a 1994-d brass plated cent. I found it last year. Going to send it to ANACS with some Ddo's and see if they will bite?
Did you ever find out any more information on your penny. My boyfriend has one as well and hasn’t found a lot of information.
I have a penny like Dr. Evil’s. And I have a couple photos I’d be interested in anyone’s opinion about why it’s like this & if it’s worth anything.Thank you. Wrangler
I haven't seen 1 picture on this thread from 2004.. I have, I have, I have... Prove it! Will someone please post something! Sheesh
