Krispy, do you have the 1950 5 Peso commemorative coin of the railroad? It would go great with that note. Very nice notes.
pennywise I do not have that coin, but I think that's a great idea to get one to compliment the notes. Thanks.
Do you know if those notes were circulated in Mexico or are they just available for collectors? Thanks
Darryl, I am not sure if these were put into regular circulation. I want to say they were but the set that I scanned above, was limited. I could be wrong and I cannot read Spanish well enough to understand all the details about these notes. Here are some links that I found while researching these notes: Nuevos billetes Conmemorativos. 2010 100 Pesos from banxico.org 2010 200 Pesos from banxico.org Calderón presenta billetes del Centenario y Bicentenario Nuevos billetes conmemorativos en México Celebran su Independencia y Revolución
Oh great! I'd be interested to hear what you find while there. I went to Mexico in early 2009 but all the notes I got from the ATMs or in change wasn't worth picking/saving. So I spent it all at the duty free on the way home
I have seen a couple on fleabay...they aren't cheap for the 100 pesos (roughly $7.99 U.S Dollars) I have seen one selling $14.00 + $5.00 for shipping..bidding isnt overwith either -Shrek P.S I would love to have one in my collection as well, I think it's an absolutely stunning banknote and wish the U.S could be this creative.
Thanks. Yes they are, and these particular notes have several new security features which makes them technologically beautiful as well. The part that's hard to see on the scan is that the 'corn' on the 100 Pesos notes, is a clear plastic printed insert embedded in the paper. It's transparent! Very cool indeed!
Was able to find both notes in circulation The 200 was a little tough and had to go to three different tellers in a 2nd bank to find one that had a couple. The cashiers didn't speak English which made it hard to explain what I was asking for exactly! Was happy to get a sample for myself even in circulated condition!
Awesome! Glad you found them on your trip! Isn't that clear plastic 'corn' insert an interesting feature. Your notes look to be in fairly good condition as well! :thumb:
Thanks Krispy, The couple I saved for myself are in pretty good condition! I think the tellers thought I was nuts but were nice enough to go through their stacks to look for me. The few extra I picked up will go to eBay to try to make up for what I am saving for myself. It would be nice to break even and should not be too hard. BTW: the 50 and 20 peso also have similar features to the corn insert. I believe the same is true fro the polymers I picked up in China.
Just a question, are currencies of the tropics generally more colorful (in variety/palette and intensity) than those countries mainly laying above/below the tropics? So even though all countries currency display colors and many colors at that are monochome colors and muted or pastel like colors more common in northern climes? (There aren't that many individual countries in southern climes so I'm thinking mainly the northern countries currency.) Maybe I'm just thinking out loud too much...
