I notice a French/Parisian shell card in there, it's a brothel token and looks to be in nice shape. While not as valuable as the Chinese dollars (which I agree are genuine) they do sell in the $20 range in that condition. More from this group: The first one seems to fetch about $15-$20. Twenty Cent Piece from that particular province. Not sure what the other 2 are.
Really nice group of coins. Lots of higher grade coins. Not an average box. You have a big project on your hands. I'm thinking this box has a cool history behind it. Any copper?
That's exactly what genuine ones feel like and why they are often called shell cards (they're hollow).
Yes! I have not photograph to Copper yet but will get to it later today. There's a fair amount of it. As far as the history goes I don't know a lot except that this guy's father-in-law traveled all over the world in the US Navy. Most of these coins seem to be from the teens and twenties.
That 1889 Canadian "fishscale" is a nice touch too, being one of the keys to the series. Not super valuable as it appears to be around G condition, but still worth a good $15 which is like 30x melt value
No UK but plenty of Australian in this lot. Also interesting Haiti and Costa Rica coins I've not seen before over here in the UK. Very nice find and enjoy sorting!
This is a great little box of world coins. From the mix of coins, it appears the FIL knew what to choose.
The Australian Shilling 1943 is Silver. Find a magnet and check to see if it picks the 2 Chinese coins up. With the other coins in the 40’s-50’s time frame, their is a good chance they are real. Chopped Mark coins in that grade I would not pay more than a 1921 Morgan in the same grade but that is just me.
