Oh yeah here we go step 1: plastic and sleeve removed step 2: break seal and open box step 3: slide card and peek at the core That's a black core yup yup (as expected lol) step 4: full reveal... Oh boy that should have rated at least a holo core If the label not clear enough that's the 1880/79 CC with reverse of 78 (vam 4) Yeah not quite the value of the 1900 o/cc but a damn hard one to find And with that revealed that coin is a break even coin (list 880ngc 1050pcgs with a 900 instant offer) so in the end I'm a couple hundred ahead on this one and very happy with the coins and the nugget.
hehe it's called high risk collecting you gotta be brave enough to buy the pig in a poke. As my parents and coachs all told me many years ago.. "You can't win if you don't play" so far with VaultBox I'm mostly ahead and the few times I hit low were still very nice prizes/coins (if slightly overpriced but that's the risk you take to win)
Added these to my NGC reg set yesterday tonight got a price change notice when I logged in .. Black Core my arse.. this outright rates a redcore now I'll take that
I’ll tell you how it works. You send them $995 and hope you get something worth a lot more than that. Maybe you will, and maybe you won’t. Way too rich a gamble for my blood, but if you’ve got 995 bucks to blow and you want to roll the dice, good luck! Weaselbritches there has a stronger stomach for risk than I do, though- as you can see. And more power to ‘im. I hope he gets the octagonal Pan-Pac $50.
I get those market report emails from NGC. They all seem to be based on the sale of a single coin. I don't think you can make any overall +/- value judgements based on that.
Oh, okay, I got it. Too much for my blood also. My mother-in-law who has passed since, had this lady come to her house that did something called "Pick a Pearl". You would pick an oyster in a bowl and all contain a Pearl. Some are common and some more rare. It was sort of fun to watch even!
I do get the fun aspect of it. It’s just the price point that’s not for me. If I’m gonna spend essentially a thousand bucks for an addition to my collection, you can dang well bet that I’m gonna want to see it first! Now, if they had a $20-25 “pig in a poke”, I’d splurge on that. In fact, I’ve done that in the past, with sellers I really like and trust. Sent ‘em 25 bucks and just said, “surprise me!”
the cheapest runs they have done were the Funbox series @ $195 each.. I pretty much broke even on those but nothing real fantastic. (hey you can't win every time lol)
I haven't played this game since the days of Virg Marshall III (The Penney Merchant) and his $25 and $50 surprise packages. Which always contained more value than the initial outlay plus the unbridled anticipation and cool discovery factor for a 15 year old kit getting into the hobby. Miss those days. Rick L.
