25c/5x for $1. bin WoW, that is quite a find for a 20p box.... amazing, I think the oldest coins I ever found in the 25c bin here were some George III pennies, but they were the post 1800 type, 1806 maybe, I can't read the dates on them, too much wear, only partial legends are visible..... one from Ireland with the harp reverse, and one from Britain. I would have to do some hard thinking to figure out which one I plucked from there turned out to be the most rare or valuable.... I know I have found several nice Silver coins (El Salvador 1953 50centavos, Liberia 1960 25 cents - both have around .1500 oz Actual Silver Weight) which is a good find for .25c any day. As well as several 1944 Filipino 10 and 20 centavos, and Dutch East Indies 1/10th Gulden, and even a few Dutch East Indies 1941-P 1/4 Gulden..... So if one is patient, and has time to look deep, hidden treasures can be found in those 25c bins. Have you got any photos of that Russian Denga you found in the 20p bin? I haven't gotten shots ofmy Norway 1914 10 Ore 25c bin find yet, but here is my Danish 1883 1 Ore of Christian IX that I found in there a while back, and paid .20 cents USD for (since I bought 5... its 25c each or 5 for a buck) It is truly a beautiful coin, just a little spot at 11 o clock on the obv, but amazing detail. (the thing to the left of the dolphins tail flipper is a piece of lint that got onto the coin while I was shooting the photos.) Third Photo: I also found this 1930 Denmark 1 ore of Christian X, which is in great shape, and I really have grown fond of.
I went to the local Albertson's and the change machine gave me a 2007 Norwegian 50 Ore coin in my change for 1 cent. Worth about 10c. Walking out of the store I picked up a 2011 dime off the pavement. So a deal 20c for 1c!
Nice øre coins, everyone! Before 1875, the Norwegian denominations were daler and skilling. One skilling was converted to 3,3333 øre. Here´s a skiling:
