You are right about us treating the indians like crap. However, that's the way it goes throughout all of human history. A people with superior weapons/diseases obliterates another people. It doesn't make it right, but it is what it is....... No retribution. We have been giving them retribution for a long time and look where it's got em...... Many are drunks just living day to day off the government.... that's no way for a proud people(maybe the proudest at one time), to live. I think it's great that we recognize Native Americans on our coins and in no way does it compare to Hitler and the Jews....... There's your flaming! LOL! I see where you are coming from though..........
I bought this coin from mtv coins, or mount vernon coins, which I heard was a rather reputable dealer? Anyways, it will still be another 5 days before it even ships...
I'd ask for a refund then. That makes no sense at all. The only possible explanation is that they didn't have one in stock and now that they have your money, they have to find one from somebody else for cheaper than what you paid, order it, have it sent to them and then they can send it to you. I'd be immediately put off by that. No excuse, and for a company no less. I agree with others about the slab. These types of coins are hard to tell if they've been cleaned and even harder to grade. I would never trust Joe Blow's opinion on a coin this valuable. There's no reason to. There's thousands of them available that are slabbed. Many of which can be picture verified on NGC's website. Then there's no BS. With gold at record highs, the spot light is on gold and gold coins. New, higher premiums on everything. I don't believe that somebody's going to sell a quarter eagle for 1 to 200 below book out of desperation right now. Especially not a dealer. Just my honest opinion fwiw....
http://forums.collectors.com/messag...5&highlight_key=y&keyword1=mount vernon coins A glance at their website left me unimpressed: http://www.mtvcoins.com/ Like I said above, I don't have a good feeling about this one. I hope I'm wrong. On the bright side, the website did confirm a money back guarantee. Good luck & keep us posted....Mike
Looks like a shady place, no pictures, nothin. It doesn't even specify whether or not the coins are slabbed. I would assume that most coin shops don't like having multiple raw Flowing Hair dollars. Like the above post, ask for refund politely ASAP!
You get no congratulations from me. You bought an uncertified gold coin sight-unseen - that is usually unwise. You asked if it was a "good deal". How, on earth, could any of us know that, not having seen the coin? The fact that you even asked that question, tells me you don't know nearly enough about coins and grading to be buying them that way. Odds are that you overpaid and/or that the coin is over-graded. If you keep buying coins in this fashion, you are sure to end up a loser.
I have purchased a number of coins, both gold and silver. I have never bought a coin that was "unslabbed." I know that NGC and PCGS are reputable, thus I try to stay with them. I buy most of my coins through online auctions. I have learned through experience that an MS65 or above is the best buy for me. I am trying to build my collection with St. Gaudens or Liberty double eagles. My personal goal is to buy one coin each quarter of the year. I have done this for a number of years. I think that you need to develop a plan and stick to the plan. I am no genius, but I continue to read and learn. Thus, don't buy without seeing, garded slabs, and a reputable seller. I tried e-Bay once and learned the hard way; the coin was "slabbed" by a company that is not acceptable by reputable buyers and sellers. Ncorey37
Please feel free to put out the flames with compelling arguments as to why, buying that coin under those circumstances, was a smart thing to do.
I don't have anything to say in regards to your post but the guy bought a gold coin and he hasn't even received it yet. We all have lessons to learn and that's my point. I can't stop you guys from flame throwing but nobody learns from it at all.
On the contrary, hopefully he WILL learn something from some of the criticisms. On the other hand, I think he'd be far less likely to learn, if everyone congratulates him for buying an uncertified coin, sight-unseen, while seeking (sight-unseen) opinions as to what kind of deal it is.
I agree with Mark here. This is not flame-throwing but solid, honest advice. Buying a raw coin sight-unseen is not a good practice. Even if the seller has a good return policy, you're going to be out out shipping both ways just to look at (likely) a problem coin worth much less than the sale price. I have purchased NGC or PCGS certified pieces sight-unseen if the price was right, but that's a completely different ballgame. For the OP, now is not the time for congratulations. We're only trying to help.
Okay, okay, okay, I got the point. The seller has a full refund return policy. Whenever the coin gets here I will snap some pics and put them up and you all can help me to decide whether to keep it or not. But yes, I agree that this was a mistake and that that is a rather shady dealer...point in case, next time i buy a gold coin, it will be slabbed.
You don't seem to get the point. What if it looks unc. in the pictures you post, but isn't? If you are not expert at grading, it is unwise to purchase uncertified coins of more than minimal value. It would also be unwise to keep a coin, rather than return it, based on opinions of those who have not seen it in hand.
I agree 100% with Mark. If you're going to bother, why not just be positive about the coin before you give up your hard-earned money. Either go to a local, trusted dealer or buy a slabbed coin. Also, you cannot rely on pictures posted over the internet. The only TRUE way to grade a coin is to have it in hand and have the knowledge/expertise to determine the grade yourself.
P.S. - Mark is not trying to flame or be "mean". He is an expert and he is merely stating fact that is backed up by years of experience. He offers sage advice IMO.
Still no coin...it hasn't even shipped and it has been two weeks. I haven't gotten any emails either except the one saying that i bought it. I can't cancel the order either because it was a gift and is not on my card. What a crap company.
