Had lunch with a dear friend today, and he wanted to show me a cloth purse from Bolivia with coins sewn onto the outside. It was apparently a method of ensuring prosperity. I took a picture of one of the coins sewn on the bag, and looked it up. From the Potosi Mint, a Spanish Heart Coin. Very cool.
That's a cool cob. I don't see a heart shape, but it's nice nonetheless. I have seen a few with heart- and teardrop-shaped flans.
Yes, that’s the sort of thing I had in mind, though the coin on the purse more resembles a conventional cob to me.
I disagree. The way the typical macuquina aka cob coin was made resulted in irregular shapes (http://www.sedwickcoins.com/articles/strap.htm). The heart shapes were specially created presentation pieces, rare and valuable, and your example does not resemble them.
