That's a good point, I should look in my world coin catalog and find the nicest looking coins from my birth year and go that route.
I put together a nice MS set for my birthyear , and lastyear finally bought an original boxed 1953 Proof set , but I can't really enjoy it because I can't get myself to take it out of the original Mint packaging . rzage
thats actually how i started collecting coins. i got birth sets for me and my wife. i got a proof set, a mint set and a graded proof set
I finally got around to my birth year set earlier this year. Ended up finding a nice original mint set. No "s" WL half that year however.
I just put toghter a 1937 set for my father-in-law for his birthday, it includes a wheat cent, buffalo nickel, mercury dime, Washington quarter and walking liberty half, along with a state quarter of his birth state. All of the coins are slabbed MS65/66, except the state quarter which is a PR69DCAM. I then bought a nice wood case that holds six slabs, I think it came out pretty nice.
I've always considered the 1958 and 1962 proof sets as birth year sets for my wife and I. Ummm... hers has the wheat cent. Cradle robber!
Yes, I am working on my birth year set. I also buy any error coins that I find and like!! Here are my set so far!! Here is the pride and joy of my set!! 1983 No-S NGC PF69UC
No. The coins in 1970 sucked, IMO. I wish I were born in 1794 or 1795 -- now that would be a cool set to have.
I haven't started on my birth year set, but I have started collecting a set of liberty gold that was made and being carried in pockets 100 years before I was born. It's a lot more expensive though!
