A few weeks ago i asked for pictures of coins with the lunar deity men, and several of you posted some sweet coin...that made me go out and buy my own. ANTIOCH PISIDIA, GORDIAN III 238-244 AD O:Laureate and draped bust of Gordian III right; R: Mên standing facing, head right, foot on a bucranium, holding scepter and Nike on a globe to the right, rooster to left "COL CAES ANTIOCH SR" SNG France 1207. 35 mm, 26.0 g. Note that this isn't "the Antioch", this is "the other Antioch". "The Antioch" is Antioch on the Orentes, "the other Antioch" is in Central Turkey. @Deacon Ray may know this town, I guess it gets a shout out in The Bible as Paul made a sermon here. It was also a Roman colony and had a large temple complex to Men at one time. Besides checking off my "Men" box, I also wanted a coin that had the "S R" on the reveres...Senatus Romanus..I guess this means the Roman senate had some special power here (or granted them?)...I'll let you folks fill me in on that. And this thing is BIG....feels great in hand! I love to fondle it. Might be getting a bit inappropriate. Post your coins of Men, Goridian III, or the other Antioch!

Thanks to Curtis Clay for help with attribution.
oh cool, i dig that coin with Boule on it as well...she is on my list as well. I guess she's a "local senate?" personification? neat @dougsmit, i hand't seen the standards reverse before...very cool.
