Best edition of Betts - American Colonial History Illustrated by Contemporary Medals?

Hello everyone,
I want to buy this reference to have on hand, American Colonial History Illustrated by Contemporary Medals by Betts et al. However, I have no idea which is the best edition to buy. I heard the 1972 version is best since it has lots of images, but are these images not in the newer versions too? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I am less concerned about current value information, and more interested in background, historical info, varieties, etc.
