I got my first what penny from my change that's what triggered my coin collecting hobby... it was a 1953 D penny! Oh and i got a gold plated nevada quarter from a vending machine that was pretty cool

I haven't received anything significant in change but others have and gave them to me. This includes a 1961 quarter someone was trying to use in a soda machine at work that wasn't accepted and someone exchanged it for another quarter and gave to me. I received a 1913 wheat cent that was given as change a Dunkin Donuts. This rest I found in coin machine reject bins and rolls.

The odd Canadian silver dime or quarter, showed up over the years. More recently, received an UNC Panama 1 Balboa 2011 in change from a Mcdonald's drive-thru, instead of our $2 coin. I like the fact that it was in such nice shape, wrapped it in a piece of paper and placed it in a holder as soon as I got home.

When I first started in 1954, I found a 1916 d Merc, later in 1962-1963 while working for Kroger, I found a 1932d Washington QT. So, I have been lucky. In high school in the snack bar a friend in front of me, got a 1909s vdb 1c in change, and I tried to get it, but he also collected coins too.

Searcher64, when I was in junior high I recall a kid buying everything in the lunch room with nothing but Mercury dimes. Had I only known then, I'd have been buying them from him instead of laughing! Although, it's almost certain he got into Dad's coins.
