Depends on how one defines best, but I think the best coin I ever got in change was a quarter in Thailand. The cashier said that some American tried passing it off as 10 baht, so they'd let me have it for 5 baht. :D

Friday morning I took my 8 yr old grandson with me to wegmans, they have a coinstar machine where we cash in his pennies after we search them "I know it cost money, but just don't feel like rewrapping them" Anyhow I always told him if he was at the store with his Mom & Dad to always check the reject tray, I usually do but I forgot, but he didn't.:)

He found a 1942 -P & a 1943-P Washington quarter & a few other quarters dimes "not silver" in the tray. He said pap these quarters sound funny when I looked at the dates I could not believe it. I have been looking for years in my change and the reject trays and NEVER found any silver. I told him "Good Job Buddy" we took them home put them in flips and he added them to his collection. He was so proud he could not wait to tell his gram and Mom & Dad. He will probably remember that the rest of his life....:D

I had something similar to this happen at the cafeteria at work. I was given a silver quarter (don't remember the date) in change, and I asked if they had any more and if so, could I buy them. I ended up with 13 silver quarters from them that day. They were all pretty worn with very common dates, but still a good day.

Great story! :) I think the best part was that he was with his granddad.

I found one of these when I was roll searching back in 1969/1970. It got me interested in collecting error and variety coins.

Wow, awesome find. I think he will tell the story for a long time as it probably won't happen again. I always check the tray, best I've found is a 1980's Canadian quarter.

I always avoid coinstar fees by getting a gift card to the Jewel grocery store where I go.

    Nevadabell A picture of me.

I did find a 1965 quarter in change, that's the oldest I've ever gotten. However, I did find a 1953 nickel in change a few years ago.

I suppose it would be "Reverse change" but my limited stock of silver has largely come from my daughter. She tends bar at a billiard hall right next to a major university and the college students seem to have an endless supply 64 Kennedy halves they use to buy their drinks.

I'm assuming there are some pretty pissed off parents out there though.

Up to 4 tubes, so nothing huge, but all were at face value :)

Sorry, that's mechanical doubling, it isn't a doubled die.

It looks just like the pictures of the DDO off copper coins.com... that's what makes me believe it is a double die..

It looks the coin is heavily worn off. I’d suggest keep up with collecting coins. This is one hobby wherein you will never go out of money….
