The Egyptian god Bes is represented on coins from Ibiza, were such images struck on coins from other mints ?
I've always thought these were neat, like a Fred Flintstone potrayal. (Well, OK, neater than that, but you get what I'm saying. I like the whimsical nature of the design.) Edit to add: Bes here also makes me think of the German "Wild Man" thalers of the 16th and 17th century. Anybody else, or have I finally lost my last marble?
In fact, this god was popular in other areas of theMediterrannean, such coins were struck in great quantity in Pompei.
I have looked at Bes coins! Congrats on a wonderful capture! It is a GREAT coin. I have nary a Bes nor a Ibiza mint coin. That one is just NICE!
@stevex6 will be flattered that you are showing his coin https://www.cointalk.com/threads/an...h-a-hammer-and-a-cool-bull-well-im-in.248333/ I've seen the facing head of Bes on other coins; perhaps a few other types of depictions.
