    I've always thought these were neat, like a Fred Flintstone potrayal.

    (Well, OK, neater than that, but you get what I'm saying. I like the whimsical nature of the design.) ;)

    Edit to add: Bes here also makes me think of the German "Wild Man" thalers of the 16th and 17th century. Anybody else, or have I finally lost my last marble?

    In fact, this god was popular in other areas of theMediterrannean, such coins were struck in great quantity in Pompei.

    I have looked at Bes coins! Congrats on a wonderful capture! It is a GREAT coin. I have nary a Bes nor a Ibiza mint coin. That one is just NICE!
