I just got a phamphlet in the mail for these coins from the Mint. I guess that was a waste. The strange this is, I hate the Franklin Coins and I think they look terrible. Ruben
I really like the old franklin... yeh, he might not be the greatest looking but that is what he looked like.. and I like the signature on obverse and realy like the look of the reverse. The young one obverse is OK, but I like the reverse(join or die). I guess we all have our likes and dislikes but I think these are nice looking coins and with the low mintage numbers 250,000 per coin I think these will do very well... time will tell. Darryl
Too me it looks like a cartoon drawing of an old franklin. I like the idea of the fugio reverse, but thats it.
French Franklin Commens If you look at the thread for the French Commen ( Ben Franklin Coin) , you will notice that the two Euro coins one gold and one silver were also sold out. The gold is a 10 euro coin with a mintage of 1000 pcs, it was selling for 269.00 euro's, about ($340.00). The silver coin was a 1/4 euro with a mintage of 10,000, sold for 25.00 euro's, about ($30.00). What a shame to miss this offering. Ben will be real hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BWJR:loud:
modern commemorative silver dollar three modern commmemorative silver dollars that were sold out are: the 1992 white house, 1993 thomas jefferson, 2005 marine corp. and yet the white house and the jefferson dollars prices were down as compared to other coins. the white house unc reached a high of $150.00. now it is only $33.00.
Well it's a classic overreaction and adjustment. Basically when the coin sells out, people who still want one are in a rush to get it, and have to go through third part delaers; the demand is high for quite a while until just about everybody who wants one has one. After a while demand settles and the price settles down to a lower level. I expect you'll see this happen with the Marine Corps dollar and the Ben Franklin dollars. I see this a lot with stock prices, but in reverse... I remember when Office Depot was planning to merge with Staples, Office Depot spiked up sharply... when the merger fell through, the stock dropped down to $15... but recovered to $25 within the week, about where it was prior to the merger announcement. I was lucky enough to have put in my stock purchase right at the valley, and nearly doubled my money when it recovered, lol, makes me wish I could have afforded to buy more.
I think the key is to selling at the right time. Something I've noticed, things that increase in price slowly retains those prices but things that spikes up will soon come down.
Franklin Proof and Unc. Dollars I have seen a number of Chronical sets listed on ebay, but I have not seen any proof or unc. dollars listed yet. Has anyone else seen a listing? I know its early yet, and most of the listings will probably start in April. Any opinions??
Big Ben, "A total fast sell out on five items" Can anyone remember the last time there was a total sell out of all items, five to be exact, in such a short time. Just a little over a week. If there was, how is the issue doing in regards to value? I can't remember such a clean sweep so quickly. If you read my opening post you will see that this was well founded and not just my hype on the issue like some readers suggested. Ben is argueably the most popular American ever. In addition the exhit in Phila, I am sure helped to promote the issue a lot. LIke most popular Commen's I am sure you will see a major spike up on all the items, but I don't believe you will see a big pull back like some issues have in the past. If I am not mistaken this will be the only Commen issued in 2006. Too many factors point to a winner for these items. Bid wisely!! BWJR
I just called the mint to determine what's up with the ben franklin coins and the ever-changing mint site. The recording says that none of the coins are available (scientist or ff) but you can still order the scientist coins and the coin and chronicles. You cannot order the ff. So, logically (I know, big mistake), I asked the rep why, if both coins are unavailable, can you order the scientist and not the ff. She said it's because the scientist hasn't reached it's limit yet. Huh? Can someone help out here on my understanding of this. The only thing I can think of is that there are two "official" mint limits (at least). One is the mintage limit. Say they are authorized to mint 250,000 coins and they get orders for 250,000 coins. That's the first limit. Then there is a second limit, say, for example, 50,000 above the first, to which they'll keep taking orders in case of cancellations or payment problems. So the scenario could be something like: 300,000 ff coins are "sold" and only 250,000 scientist coins. So the ff must be more popular.
50,000 FF proof coins are reserved for the Legacy collection sets coming out later this year, so that may be why the FF coins reached the maximum limit faster
b franklin mintages estimation my estimated mintages for benjamin franklin silver dollars are as follows: scientist silver dollar proof: 158,250 scientist silver dollar unc: 41,650 scientist & chonicles set (unc): 49,900 founding father dollar proof: 170,600 founding father dollar unc: 29,300 founding father & legacy set (proof): 49,900 what are yours?. ps.....50,000 set for each chonicles and legacy set are not low as compared to uncirculated single piece scientist or founding father silver dollar.
Suprisingly -- I cant find anything on Ebay ... what are the secondary market prices for the Ben Franklin commems???
You can not pre-sell on ebay unless you can offer delivery within 30 days and you must list that information in your auction. Since the coins will not be shipped until maybe April...you can not list there....one guy got away with one aucition, but others have been pulled. Wait a bit there will be plenty of offers soon enough:whistle:
