I just did a quick ebay check on the coin and cur 2001 buff set and yes I was surprised to see them going back up to the $145 range....they were around 90-100 a few months ago....I keep an eye on them as I have 45 sets of them.

When the sets were available...I placed 3 orders by error thinking my the orders were not going through. Next thing I know they limited the orders to 20 per order. When I called the mint to check on my order of 25...they told me I have 75 sets on order and they were going to limit me to 20 per order, so I was getting 60 sets! I sold off a few at the $250 range, and just stuck that others in my closet. Was a screw up all around, and this was one of the first coin orders I placed with the mint as I just started collecting mint proof sets in 2000. So for a novice I think I did OK.

I limited myself to 1 founding fathers proof. The Franklin coins just not as attractive as they could be, IMO.

So are they selling like HOTCAKES

I thought someone here predicted that the Benny Coins were going to sell out in 2 days....

well today is 2 days and I see no signs of a sell out on any of them.:headbang:

    Hmmmmmm?

Is this coin a loser?

    Dear Touche,

I said that the Chronical Set would sell out in two days. Tomorrow at 12 Noon will be two days. Let's see!! If it sells out in four or five in my opinion that is just as good. The limit on the set is still 50,000. whether its 2 or 5 days. The fast sell will only have a little effect on the price hype. You better get yours before the week end.

Like someone else said, BWJR, I think you're creating your own hype. Best of luck with it. If it turns out they're worth more than the current pre-sale prices, then that's great. I bought two in case they go up in value someday (one to keep, one to sell). So I hope it goes up too.

    Keep hyping these. :)

If they don't go up in value, I can always give them away as gifts and tell the giftee "this will be worth big money someday!" :D

    lol

I thought before they were released that these coins would be popular, but a sellout in 2 days... very unrealistic... the Buffalo dollar was extremely popular and it took 3 weeks (if i remember correctly). I do beleive these coins will sell out in a short amount of time, but maybe more on the timetable as the Buffalo dollar - a few weeks toa month.... but only time will tell.

The mint site now says the proof scientist and founding father coins are available for shipping on 2/28. I think a lot of people (me included) bought a boatload only because of the original April date, so they'd have the option of cancelling in case of no sellout. This changes the game a bit.

The mint site changed the delivery date to 4/30 again. Pretty screwy.

This what the Numismatic eNewsletter says about the commemorative,
"Over half of the Franklin commemoratives were sold as of Jan. 25, after six days of sales. Sales figures from the U.S. Mint for the uncirculated and proof versions of both the "Scientist" and "Founding Father" examples showed that a total of 260,000 were sold by that date. So altogether, the total of Franklin commemoratives sold was 290,000 out of a maximum of 500,000."

I just noticed that there is a message on the mint site saying that they have sold out of the total mintage (except the 50,000 being held for the American Legacy Set to be released later this year). They are taking "waiting list" orders like they did for the Marine Comm coins. I guess it's official. The Ben Franklins are sold out unless a lot of people decide to cancel before shipment. Did anyone notice when the mint posted this?

I didn't notice any messages at 200pm EST when I placed my order for the Chronicles set. I must have just got in under the wire.
