Belgium 5 Centimes 1923, your thoughts.

    This 5 Centimes is dated 1923 with the Dutch legend, according to my Krause there was also a 1923 struck over 1913, but mine does not look like a "1" under that "2" , although the "3" does look over struck, what do you think ?.

    The 2 numeral looks like a double die case.

    So do you think it was originally a 1913 overstruck with 23 and the "2" was doubled in the process ?
    I have had many of these overstrikes but none like this .

    Re-cut date, pretty common for this series.

    I appreciate that and have had many in the past but if this is a 1913 recut to a 1923 then it should surely be a "1" under the "2" not a doubled "2"

    No it's a 1923 re-cut date. In this case it doesn't mean an older date was engraved into a new one, but rather the digits were redone, likely due to some problem with how they were cut the first time.
