Look, you know it, I know it, and MANY ex-members also know it. This site is hemorrhaging active members (still on the roster, but...) due to bizarre moderation. I'll bet even Doug and Peter know it.
Admittedly, I do not know how this works. School me. My YouTube vids get views in the dozens, not thousands or millions.
Good old silversearcher openly admitted to the fact the videos he was here solely to promote were monetized and even begged for money in a few of them, but even this wasn't deemed to be in violation of the self-promotion rules. Doesn't make much sense to me since it perfectly fits the very definition of self-promotion, yet is what it is. What's good for one is good for all, but even if not against the rules this doesn't mean the membership should refrain from calling it like it is. JMHO, of course.
YouTube's entire model is you get paid for clicks and subscriptions. The OP is here STRICTLY for clicks and subscriptions and never does anything ELSE anymore than "drop and run".
Oh Yeah. I was more worried about him driving his daddy's BMW, Sunday mornings, around 3 SE states collecting half dollars at all the open banks all whilst opening and showing what he's taken in while driving!
Hmm. As mentioned, I know nothing about monetization of YouTube video clicks and how that works, though I had a vague notion that something like that exists. Again, I'll let Doug and Peter rule on this. If there's a clear policy in place, I'll follow it. Seems to me it would be a hard line to draw between these vids and my vids and everybody else's vids. Who gets paid and how? Where are the lines between information, entertainment, and self-promotion drawn? I never got a cent for my detecting vids (except the ones I dug up on camera).
Well, one possibility is to hang around and answer others' posts, like a regular member, rather than just "drop and dash".
When you go to the post in the thread, does the video start automatically or do you have to click on it?? Did you do it on purpose or was there a hypnotizing twilight zone spiral ( you are old enough to remember that) and your finger couldn't be controlled??? NO, you chose to do it. If you went to a coin show and there was a sign " pick up a coin and you bought it", would you do so?? If there is a point in the show where he asks for money for the coin, please send me the minute:seconds, and I will check it, BUT since anyone can ignore it why not do so? All of the harsh treatment for people who do not take any time to try and tell if they have a certain coin, but just post, and the answer from many in this thread is that they should take their own initiative........ Did any of you honestly didn't know that if you clicked , the producer of the video might get a few cents? I do doubt it. Peter and Doug can over rule the mods or make changes in the rules. Do those of you who sell enjoy being able to use your url in the footer to advertise website or sales site? Is that different? Should that also be changed...i don't think so , but open a can of worms if you wish. Jim
If that was addressed to me, I was reading the link you provided. But I'll drop and dash now. Talk to Doug. Have him and/or Peter write a policy on YouTube links. I'll follow it.
So there we have it, boys. Congressmen and naughty words? Crime of the century. Naked self-promotion with no other interaction? No biggie. Time for a new site? Maybe.
Speaking STRICTLY for me, you've never seen me link to my website from here or for any associates either. We all have our standards, and we've covered ad nauseum how ours don't match. But then again, I host my own site and have no need for fancy server upgrades with regularity. I couldn't care less about monetizing my site.
Hey Kurt start your own forum, you can use any rules you want. You can ban me before I even join. This is a great forum, and I was a member before being a mod and I will be one after. You do not like the rules, OK. You do not like the moderation by certain moderators, OK. You are an intelligent person and can make the decision best for you. If you stay the rules stay the same. Who Peter and Doug have as moderators is still only their business. I sincerely hope you stay Kurt, but all of us are under the same rules. Have a nice day, Jim
