It should grade MS60 or MS61. Outside chance of AU58 if wear is found. A couple spots could be taken as scratched on a coin that was less baggy. Regardless of the grade that might be assigned, it should market around the MS60 slider valuation. Not worth certification IMO.

It has wear. You're not looking at the traditional high points of the Morgan-- cap, feathers, hair. There is slight rub there. Not a MS coin, and much ado about an extremely common coin.

Imo that coin could go MS. It might certainly be low MS like MS60 because the bagginess and strike. But as @HawkeEye stated the flatness is likely attributable to the strike itself and not actual wear. Of course seeing the coin in hand and seeing if the flatness accompanied by no luster because it is from a rub would preclude MS.

Also OP you mention scans, did you actually scan the coin and not take a photo? As weakness in strike and flat areas can look a lot worse and mimic the look of wear in the resulting scan than they do on the actual coin from my experience.

Excellent point on the scan. My pix was a high resolution one from VSS and the one in question was a poor quality blurred one. I have seen them go both ways with the graders and I just like to have them in hand before passing final judgement. How many times have you looked at a pix and thought you had a particular VAM to get the coin and realize there was detail that did not photograph well and changed the final assessment? We all know that lighting and the skill of the photographer can play heavily into a coin's perceived characteristics.

In my experience photos are helpful, high res photos are better, but holding the coin is best.

This coin has been circulated, albeit lightly...look at the "tear drops" just south of the "U"

Agree precisely with Morgandude. The only way this would get as MS grade is if they were giving out "mercy grades."

Its hard 4 me to say either way, without seeing any luster....With that said, According to the talons, 3 lines and spit curl, and wreath, this coin actually had a pretty good strike to begin with. Looking at the cotton bolls and various other places i THINK im looking at a circulated coin so, AU @ best

I agree with Morgandude's description. The only way this would get a MS grade is if they were giving out"mercy grades." I don't think that this coin was not in a major war, but IMO, it has been in a few skirmishes.
