I try to avoid bronze coins and focus on Silver issues but from time to time I come across a nice coin for a good price. I think this is one of them. Though many collectors dis Late Roman coin designs as crude, I respectfully disagree. While this coin isn't on par with a Sestertius of Nero, I do think it gives many coins of the Early Empire and Late Republic a run for the money. Constans II AE-2 Nummus DNCONSTAN-TIVSPFAVG - Pearl-diademed, draped & cuirassed bust left, holding globe in right hand. FELTEMP-REPARATIO - Roman soldier standing right and dragging youthful captive from beneath a tree. Exergue: 4 grams
These are the only ones I have... As you know, I really do not concentrate on the Late Imperials, LOL, and it probly shows... RI Constantius II 337-361 CE AE 4 Emperor stndg holding globe RI Poemenius in name of Constantius II summer 353 Trier XP RIC VIII Trier 332 RARE RI Constantius II 337-361 CE AE 2 Soldier spearing downed horseman
Some LRB are really nice, you shouldn't dismiss them all. I actually like Valentinian era coins. Constans (337 - 350 A.D.) Æ2 O: DN CONSTA-NS PF AVG, Pearl diademed, draped and and cuirassed bust left, holding globe in right hand. R: FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO, Helmeted soldier, spear in left hand, advancing right, head left; with his right hand he leads a small figure from a hut beneath a tree. (mint of Cyzicus), 4th offincia. I like LRBs a lot. Lots of types and many nice examples can be had for very modest sums. Here is a Constantius II AE2 I have: Constantius II, AD 337-361 AE Follis, 5g, 25mm, 12h; Antioch mint, 350-355 Obv.: D N CONSTANTIVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped & cuirassed bust right. Rev.: FEL TEMP REPARATIO, Γ in left field, helmeted soldier left, spearing falling horseman who is clutching horse's neck In Ex.: ANS I would like more of the larger LRBs but it just hasn't happened yet.
I have developed a soft spot for the type. Here is a small sample of contrasting mints from my collection. Alexandria Arles Lugdunum Nicomedia
Nice OP example, MM Oh, and great socks on your coins, Martin ... yah, all I have is this one humble Constans hut-guy example ...
