That was the kind of theory I started with on the other thread. @Fred Weinberg assured me that this damage occured after minting.... i really had a hard time buying that. Then I found a second example of the same thing.... I became more confident that it was in the minting.... this despite @cpm9ball and @Fred Weinberg posts. I thought @paddyman98 nailed it.... but maybe there is more to this story.... Is there somewhere I could read more about the techniques used to mint coins in this time......? A Damaged Blanking Punch.... sounds good... but having only an understanding of modern minting... does not mean much to me...
and after all that.... @Conder101 is thinking it might not be finning.... but either way... I think we can establish it was an error in the minting of the coin.
