The only one (I think) of the top 4 that would grade it is ANACS.
    [Not sure about ICG].

That is exactly what I was thinking. Business strike 1877 IHCs have a "weak N" reverse while the proof '77 IHCs have a "bold N" reverse. This coin has a "bold N" reverse. 'Bold N' reverses were also used for business strikes of other dates.

The following possibilities exist for this coin:

It is a genuine, although severely impaired, 1877 proof.
It is an altered-date business strike.
    It is a counterfeit.

I think it would be worth the cost to have the coin authenticated by ANACS.

Don't submit it to PCGS or NGC, they won't slab it. HAve nothing against them, lol, but just saying with THIS coin you would be throwing your money away. ANACS will slab and authenicate it if it is real. If it isn't, then no TPG that I know of will slab it.

I just showed this thread to my friend, and he asked me to print out the forms for ANACS. So it is going to be graded.

Question for those of you that use ANACS. For one coin to be sent in 15day is $16.00, that does or does not include Return S&H? Or is that the additional $7.00?

    Regards,

You pay for the Registered Mail shipping cost to and from ANACS plus their grading fee. It may seem a little pricey but you'll know if your coin is real and when slabbed you may be able to sell it.
