There are two tiers of CAC membership: (1) Dealers (2) Advanced Collectors. I am not sure if they opened membership first to dealers, and then later to collectors. I have a Collector membership, as do more than a handful of active CT members. Membership is currently "closed", but you can be placed on a waiting list and then eventually be accepted depending on your application, references, history, etc. I have only been a member for around a year, many other people here, including dealers like @Tom B have been members for much longer and know the history better than I do.
We are basically saying the same thing. If it were not for the overwhelming lack of confidence in the TPGs that has existed among dealers and more knowledgeable collectors for going on 10 years now, then CAC could not exist. That lack of confidence is why they want JA's opinion.
Bull Hockey I buy the coin not the slab no matter what TPG slab it is......as for green beans I don't own one or would buy one! When I buy a coin # 1 do I truly need the series date or variety . #2 does the coin have eye appeal? #3 is the specimen worth the value the owner/dealer has placed on it? #4 if forced to liquidate can I recoup my investment or profit ? #5 not paying for the coin being graded or regarded by a third party or a forth! #6 all stickers are removed It's that simple.....no need for whom the best TPG No need for a sticker....I'm buying a coin not some stranger's opinions . I trust my eye and have no need to pay for a fancy holder unless I choose to. This reminds me of buying a washing machine from Sears years ago when I was first married. We settled on a machine and price. Felt like it was a good value a good machine plus we had dirty clothes needed to be washed. Next the salesman sez.... we have an extended warranty " I strongly recommend you buy it" At that point a bell went off in my head.... He sez... no matter what happens to this machine we will fix it! If the paint comes off we will repaint it! Etc....Etc...Etc.. I said wait ... you mean to tell me I need a warranty on a new machine that comes with one? He said YES! I said rip up the sales ticket... God sakes I need a machine to wash clothes not a warranty . ... he's stands there stone face....I continue I ask Do you or have you ever play the lottery? He replies YES...OK I said if you played the number 123 would also bet 456? Because if you did you be betting against yourself ! And "I sir don't ever bet against my self! I went else where and made my purchase no warranty except the one that came with the machine for 1 year. Some 20 years passed the machine washed clothes never needed to be repainted.... Never bet against yourself buy smart buy what "Your" brain sez buy. Now someone else can have the soapbox....lol
In part, absolutely. But I also think the fact that CAC is a market maker in CAC stickered coins is a huge factor as well. A TPG might make a payout or replace a coin if it messes up. CAC will buy the coin at pre-established coin regardless of whether they are correct or not. In other words, to put it colloquially, CAC "puts its money where its mouth is." Having that extra liquidity is fairly powerful both for collectors and dealers who need to quickly move inventory.
...besides murdering the English language, I respect your opinion. It's all good to trust your eye but will the market trust your eye when it comes time to sell? The market certainly trusts JA's eye. One day (maybe far after you are gone), if your collection of coins is as you say it is...they will end up in top TPG plastic with CAC beans on them. To each man his own, but truly PQ coins will end up that way in the end whether we like it or not. Erik
I see a coin I like in a slab. I look at the grade. I look at the coin again and see if I agree with that grade. I either buy it or pass. If it has a bean on the slab that's cool with me. If it doesn't, oh well. Merry Christmas, Chief
If you respect option why the grammar remark? Everyone knows I have my own language . CAC well I can't say what my opinion of John scam.but he sure making money for a opinion though plastic. Millions of people are fooled in buying a Green Bean . That sooner than later will be worthless as coin is Not inspected like a Tpg@ it like Cointalk we all have an opinion they just fooled you into paying for it @talkcoin
No worries Jello I never let any want a be ivy league community college student stop me from expressing my views,in here or elsewhere . ... It seems these days there are a lot of younger know it all's ,whom desperately lack any respect ,or social graces...... And that my friend is why there's always an ignore button!
Have you ever called a TPG and asked them to buy your accurately graded coin at a fair price? If not, try it and let me know how it goes. Then do the same to CAC. You will then see the difference. I don't know what you collect, but when it comes time to sell, you will appreciate the market maker function of CAC and the resulting increase in liquidity.
Sadly your spot on about social graces buddy. Yeah 4 years of college was fun. But mine were clep though jungle and dessert or Life as G.I . I don't know how the young people are going to get educational institutions if there millions more of Experts in their own mind. I'm NOT talking about a member. Bean do make ya fart. Think about that one.
Yes I have John A owner of CAC was on the phone @ Ngc then a few years later at Pcgs. John one who out for money for his pocketbook. CAC well I would buy any stock in company. It's like fashion once they fall out fashion so Will your Bean.
All good little boys and girls who love stickers, also love to color. Here is a little something to pass the time...
Successful TPGs usually don't close membership access or cease to accept new clients. How is he supposed to get his coins stickered and find out if they are interested in purchasing them, when there is currently a waiting list to a closed membership? If you're suggesting a person should buy someone else's CAC slabs, at the current inflated prices, how can you be sure of an increase in liquidity at time of sale?
Are some coins worth 50% more than others in the same holder? Yes. One of CAC’s goals is to establish a market for those premium quality coins and post bids for coins with their sticker of approval. PCGS and NGC are of equal value, if CAC approved. edited http://www.coinlink.com/News/us-coins/to-cac-or-not-to-cac/ Interesting older read. Has anything changed since, substantially?
