Baseball HOF Clad dollars

Got my proof half dollar today and I love it. They did a good job.

You’d think the mint/congress would get a clue from the way the 3 different HOF coins sold. They should offer a clad and/or a SILVER half dollar.

 

They should have had a silver half from the start of the modern Comm. program.
The clad just don't have the look.

 

Write your congressmen guys. Ya wanna get it from clad to silver you need to write your congressman. They're the ones that set the standards. Heck.....ain't been no silver halfs (commem) since the Bill of Rights issue.

You'd think the mint, being the profit motivate capitalist they are these days, would be lobbying congress for silver halves.

 

But they're getting $19 for 17 cents worth of copper and nickel. That's probably why they do it.

 

True, but they'd gouge us even more on a silver version, thus even making more.

 

Or why not incorporate platinum or palladium? Not my thing but I'm sure there is a market for it.

 

I guess collectors want "traditional" composition - for the half dollar that would be 90% silver.

 

I would like to see a HOF silver half added as part of a collector set later in the year.

 

I doubt that will happen - if it hasn't been discussed already, I think it's too late to get that going...

I'll get a couple clads cheap as they eventually will be, then use one for coin flipping.

 

I don't care if it will "ever be worth much," I want one, and I'm a collector, not an investor lol... I have a shipping date of 6/1 so far (besides, half dollars just have a special place in my heart for me, as the sight of a Kennedy half is what sparked my interest in coin collecting in the first place). Ordered the silver dollar too, got a date of 7/7 for that.

Mint is still selling the clad half and the silver dollar, but they're being backordered. The $5 gold sold out very quickly.
