I was looking to start up a liberty head/barber dime set and want to pick up a book to try and school myself a little first . The three books I see are The Authoritative Reference on BARBER DIMES Illustrated by Kevin Flynn COMPLETE GUIDE TO BARBER DIMES By David Lawrence A Guide Book of Barber Silver Coins 2nd Edition by Q. David Bowers I am familiar with all three authors and know they all do a good job. But if purchasing only one is there one of these better than the others ? Thanks
The David Lawrence books are available on the Newman Numismatic Portal. Granted, it's 30 years old, but it's where I'd start. https://archive.org/details/compguidebarbdime1991lawr/mode/2up
The Lawrence book is a good free start, and the Bowers book is great particularly if you might branch out into the quarters and halves. I haven't seen the Flynn book so read the reviews first.
The Authoritative Guide by Kevin Flynn is a great book, particularly aimed at die varieties. I am a member of the Barber Coin Collector Society, the web-site (free) has lots of information of interest. http://www.barbercoins.org/index.shtml
