Geez! When I first read that, I was thinking that there is no way that could happen. Then I saw his location, Florida, now it makes sense. I need to see if I can convince my wife on letting us move there.

Today, I got a box of cents. Turns out to be a solid box of 2012s, so I go to a bank to see if I can swap them out for CWR. I don't have an account with them but I've been by there several times and got halves from them. After explaining to the teller what I wanted to do, which took a while cause she had a hard time figuring it out, she said that she could swap them. Then asked if I had an account with them. I said no. So she refused to swap them out. It just doesn't make sense to me. I can understand buying rolls from a bank that you don't have an account at and them refusing but to swap BWR of cents fro CWR of cents seems a little extreme.

Do any of you get charged fees to have the banks order boxes for you? If so, what does it cost you on top of face? I'm just wondering because the bank I usually get boxes from suddenly started charging me to buy boxes that they have in stock AND boxes that I'd want to order if I did.

No fees for box orders. You should check with other branches. If it's the same across the board, look for another bank. I believe there's a decent portion of banks that will not charge you as long as you are a customer. Of course that isn't always the case, so you'll need to do a little bit of research.

Done in by a Penny machine? I hope not...

I'm just walking out of TD Bank after dumping a box of dimes. Only problem is the receipt showed $101.80. I saw a huge amt of rejects in the bottom, managed to scoop out 3 handfuls before the manager came over because of of the bags was full. I toldhere the were more rejects that I couldn't reach and she let me scoop out yet a 4th handful when the machine was opened. She then told me to immediately dump them back in. She also grabbed the other rejects and put them back in the machine. (I had already quickly scanned, no silver) anyways, coins still kept coming out of the reject slot. We got them back in and counted, then continued with the rest of my dump. You can only imagine my shock and dismay when she hit the end button and that low number came up on the screen!
They made a copy of my coin ticket, gave me the money and took down my acct # and phone #. They said they'll have to research Penny at their end of week report and send it off somewhere if a discrepancy shows. They should call me by Wednesday and if it turns out that I'm right, they'll deposit the difference in my acct. Boy I hope this works out and the missing change will show up somewhere...

I've had this happen, the machine is off but when they go and count the bag they will show they are over. I think you will get your money back, I did and I told them to deposit the money into my daughter's account so she actually made out in the end. She comes with me all of the time so she deserved it.

Would you believe this just got resolved today? After several phone calls and 2 personal visits since 8/19, I got fed up with folks just sorta passing the buck(s) and went to a manager of a different branch which is very very friendly and I never have any problems with them. I asked him to advocate on my behalf. He sent an email to the branch manager where I had the original problem and cc'd the regional manager that runs 16 branches in the area on Monday morning. Sure enough, my phone rang Monday afternoon. The problem branch manager stated that this was the first she was hearing of my issues (SURPRISE!) and promised to get on it and call me shortly after 9 this morning. She called at 10:15 and said she was still waiting for a last bit of info. She finally called again around 4ish to say they were depositing the $150 into my account. She made comments about how all the reports kept showing the machine count as correct, yet she knew of several problems with the machine during the week that I dumped. She also said that the good branch manager knows that I'm always "on point" with my dumps and that I do this a lot. (I'm assuming they must have records of my penny receipts and can see that the amts are usually at the $250 or $500 mark +/- $1) I just said ok and thank you. Funny thing was that the last thing she said was that she'd like me to go to her first if I have any problems in the future. I bet she got spanked by the regional manager.

No worries for her, as I won't be using that branch again.

I was asked by one of my dump banks to bring my dumps to where I bought the coin from because they have to unroll each one that I roll up for them. For me to my credit right away they need to be rolled. I told them I could bring them in bagged to save them time but would need immediate credit. She said no, so I said to her I will kindly keep bringing them in rolled for immediate deposit. I also asked in a not so direct way if she was refusing to take my deposits of coin with cash (paper bills) as well, and she said no. Carry on as I was doing.
I'm tryng to save them time and money by bringing in bagged but they continue to refuse.

I have a wee bit of a funny taste in my mouth after the teller at my main halves supply branch pulled out a partially ripped box for me today and explained that they took 3 rolls out for another customer that was looking for some. It doesn't make sense since they asked me to save 3 rolls from the box they gave me yesterday to return to them this morning specifically for this customer. Those rolls that he ended up with might have potentially turned around my skunk for today. *sigh*

I am finding the two commercial banks I am dealing with are starting to get a bit snarky on selling boxes of coins. Now they want to charge 5%, and the tellers are making an exception for me - maybe it is that I am paying them off with candy and gift cards. My credit unions OTOH are just happy as punch to sell me all the coins they can spare, they get commercial deposits and I have convinced them to save themselves and me as a member/shareholder money and sell them to me instead of shipping them 125 miles away to a big city commercial bank that handles them. I am at the point where I am having to consider that my banks are going to shut the door - the one is being taken over soon by an out of state bank and policies are changing. Credit unions are currently my big supplier, and most customer friendly to deal with.

Interesting, Scot. I had a hard time with my CU over the past month or so. They used to be a great supplier with CWR halves and dimes. Perhaps things are turning the corner since they did manage to release $150 in dimes to me today...

Hey folks, I think I FINALLY will be getting my grubby hands on a good ole BRINKS box of halves! I was speaking with my coworker about my dilemma when he suggest that I just call Brinks directly to see if they'd at least point me in the right direction or let me know if there was a way to just buy directly from them as a private consumer. I figured the answer to the latter would be no (and it was), but I was delightfully surprised with the phone rep from a local office began rattling off banks in MA/So. NH that they do business with. I described the brown halves box that I used to get from BofA and he knew what I spoke of, then said that all the banks he listed should be able to order them.

I immediately called one of the BofA's from that list and described what the box looked like to the head teller. She said that she could order one for me! She also said that sometimes they get the long yellow boxes and explained that she believes "those come from some giant pile from the fed. The brown Brinks rolls are coin collected from customers and rerolled." I thought that was a pretty interesting theory and I supposed it could explain why I had soooo much better luck with mega boxes on Brinks as opposed to the 1 or 2 silvers I MAY see here or there in those long yellow boxes.

Anyone else believe her theory? Of course, I'll let ya'll know what happens on Wed when the box comes in on the main thread.
