I thought we could have a thread to share photos of Bank of Upper Canada half penny and one penny tokens. I know lots of folks have examples of this issue, in one or both denominations, or a variety of dates. Here's my finest example. It has prooflike fields. : )
I concur with green18. Both of these new posts/coins are truly winners, and high end in their own right. Besides, no one could ever accuse or admonish brg5658 for starting a new thread, or repeating it when one is already in existence. My hat is off to you for checking the archives that closely. There should be an award for this. :>)
Actually, there should be an award for his most excellent photography. Gosh, I never tire of viewing his photos..........
Saltysam and green, you two gentlemen are too kind. I use the archive a lot to research topics, and this was one that I had not seen before. Sorry for the "necro-posting", but my little humble copper fit nicely in the topic. I just wish I could find more of these St. George Upper Canada pieces...they are downright hard to find in MS condition.
Gentlemen. I am a big fan of an old Canadian coins. And I am grateful to MR. Brg5658 for the "reanimation" of this old but interesting thread. Here is mine token: halfpenny 1820.
I just need to find me a nice 1850 halfpenny to complete the small date-set of these. I added the 1852 and 1854 recently -- here's my set so far (I doubled up on the 1857 as I liked both too much to choose one).
I realize that my example isn't in the ball-park with your coins, but I couldn't resist bidding-on a Dragon Slayer example for myself (sure, it has a ding/flaw in it, but for $12.50 I decided it was comin' home to my house)
Hey, now I'm a bit curious? => ummm, I bid on that coin without any knowledge of its worth/cost ... what does Charlton catalogue say that my new coin is worth/cost? ... ummm, EF? (I'm not even sure what grade you'd give ... tough to say with that nick/flaw on the obverse, eh?) ... oh well, hopefully $12.50 is okay (maybe I could have bought a minty for $5??) If anybody knows the book-value then please give me a shout (thanks, dudes)
I added a new St. George token to my collection from the FUN 2015 Winter show...purchased from John Kraljevich. The only other 1854-dated example graded MS65 by NGC sold at the Heritage auction during the show, but the example I found on the bourse is much nicer IMO. 1854 Halfpenny Token (PC-5C), NGC MS65BN
