I'm going. I just saw this morning that the Saddle Ridge Hoard is going to be on display there! http://expo.whitman.com/news/the-saddle-ridge-gold-hoard-goes-to-the-whitman-baltimore-spring-expo/
Been here since 10am. Not a large crowd yet..... Waiting to to in at noon. Line has already begun to form for the baseball coins. Special labels if u submit at the show. These should be a big hit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Standing in line with the director of marketing for us mint and some of his staff. Here's the word... If u are not in line now for the coins u will be waiting til may. They will not disclose how many coins they have on hand but they are willing to say that those who come tomorrow may not be so lucky. Unfortunately they are limiting how many u can buy. Only one gold proof and unc and 5 silver and clad proof and unc coins to each person. Line is too long to get back in. Also recommend placing order on line as the mint is expecting these to sell out within 48 hours! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Also mint employees are not allowed to buy these coins early and are standing in line with us. I am told that this is unusual as they typically have a mandatory 30 day waiting period before buying. Also no discounts for mint employees either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm in the 'waiting room' Joe. I was going to defer buying the gold uncirculated till later this year but now I think I'm going to order it when I get into the site........
Good thing I don't go for anything after 1964. I'll be there about 10AM Friday searching for things on my wantlist.
I'll be going Friday to look for some high AU Barber quarters. Hopefully I can make a trade or two. Every time I go, I end up walking in circles and more often than not, not finding what I want. Is there a directory of all the dealers I can pick up and where they are located? I don't want to wander aimlessly this trip, lol. I'll be wearing my name tag with my CT user name. I am going to attempt to be there by 1 P.M.
Kanga's right Silverhouse. They also have them posted in the lobby before you go in to the show. Bruce
Well, for me the show was a total washout. I got nothing. Most of what I was looking for I couldn't find. And the few items I did find were higher grades, hence more expensive than I felt I could justify in purchasing. I think I'm going to look MUCH closer at some of the auction houses. But MFD agreed with me that much of the good material is being snapped up by collectors and therefore lost to the market for extended periods of time. Dealers will flip items; collectors will sit on them.
I went Friday afternoon, and put CT on my name tag with my CT handle. I didn't run into anyone the three hours I was there from CT. I went to some of the dealers and surprisingly nobody had any raw AU Barber quarters, or at least all the dealers I could visit in three hours of searching. I did find an 1897 S but I felt he wanted too much for it, it was defintely a details coin. ( He was asking 500 ) The show wasn't a total bust, I picked up an MS 1903 $1.00 gold Thomas Jefferson commemorative coin. I'll post pics when I get more time.
