Did you look at why his feedback score is now so low? The OP and his ridiculous sense of entitlement is responsible for this entire mess yet he decides to neg the seller instead of accepting a little personal responsibility. Stand up move, OP.... way to show a little class.
The first time around you were way off. I had to reread what you wrote twice to make sure I understood what you did. Then I just stared at the screen where you wrote to please wait two weeks. I can't comprehend doing that. The second time I'm not saying it is ok but don't expect someone to honor a deal for coins at 50% off value. They will either be lost, stolen, sold or whatever. Even though you won the auction it is unrealistic to expect the seller to come through. They should honor the deal but they won't. (No need for everyone to post their experiences where they did sell at 50%. I'm not saying everyone will weasel out just most people. Someone lost a coin I won too cheap. )
The seller was too nice the first time around. He should have filed a non paying bidder case and blocked the buyer. I don't blame the seller at all. He was really nice based on what was posted and also in his reply to the neg.
It's a tough lesson for the seller. Always block the deadbeats from bidding. Too bad he had to get a negative feedback to learn that.
I've given a month for a buyer to pay one time, but I regretted it because it stopped me from being able to make another purchase. Another time I was asked to allow a month for someone to pay for 2 coins totaling $1100. I agreed. 6 weeks later, I just kept getting more excuses. I opened a case and won of course... but in reality I was the loser. Ever since then, every buyer gets 4 days.
I would be careful with that policy, I often make purchases of more expensive coins and frequently need a little bit of leeway when it comes to payments. Of course I always let the seller know as soon as I know I am seriously interested in buying the item, and always before I commit to a purchase or a deal has been made. I am in the middle of a payment plan right now of sorts, and this is an example of how that situation should be handled. I found 2 seated quarters I wanted from one seller. Total for both coins was $1500, $1100 and $425 each, minus a small break for buying both coins. I know the seller had an ebay store and is a major dealer so he has a website as well. I found his contact information (and his purchase policy which did extend a 90 day law-a-way plan), and made the $1500 offer and that I would make 3-$500 payments. We agreed to terms, and I let him know that the reason I was needing the extra time was due to the Raleigh Show near the same time period and I didnt know exactly what my financials would be like until the first of the following week after the show and making purchases and selling a few things. After the show, I emailed him and let him know how I wanted to proceed and that I would be sending a coin he made an offer on and a check for the balance of the $1100 coin. Thats right, instead of a $500 payment like we both were initially expecting, I was able to outright make a deal for the $1100 coin and have it sent out, as well as a nice window to make the payment on the other coin. I communicated with the seller, and took the obligation very seriously to go ahead and pay off my debt. I also have done this with many other sellers, I would rather have an agreement that ensures I get the chance at the coin I want, rather then let them all pass by without doing anything to make acquisitions for my collection, especially the area I collect. I have also asked ebay sellers to be patient with me when outright buying items through ebay. Ive even had utilize the full extent of ebays time frame to make payment before. All for various reasons, ranging from payday coming in a day or two, major checks taking a couple of days to fund my paypal account, transfers and deposits to fund my bank account that funds my paypal, etc. I look at sellers who EXPECT immediate payment as somewhat ridiculous, none of the stuff sold on ebay is a life threatening emergency and can wait for real life to clear the way sometimes before payment is made. I know we all love this hobby and some of us use it for business purposes, but keep in mind its just a coin or a hobby and some of us work long and late and need a minute or two to make proper arrangements. I love coins, but not more than ensuring the reason I am able to purchase coins is taken care of properly first.
The key was that you communicated well, which always makes things work out more smoothly. And I never expect immediate payment. 4 days is reasonable. I don't open unpaid item cases unless it's been 7 or 8 days with no communication.
Wait, in addition to OP waiting 4 days to notify the seller he wanted another 14 days to pay for a $130 item, the OP left the seller a negative for this terrible mess he was involved in? And then OP has the gall to start a thread in a huge public forum calling his seller "bad". And the seller on buyer favoring Ebay (can't leave a neg for a buyer) apologizes to you. What's wrong with this picture? OP you need to remove the neg you left for your seller, and apologize to him, in this thread.
I could not agree more. This gentleman does not deserve to be dragged through the mud nor punished over this nonsense, just as the OP did not deserve to come out on top because of his. For the sake of fairness, and a little added irony, perhaps it is worth comparing the selling histories of both parties.
@kaosleeroy108 : Can you talk to the seller again, maybe remove the neg feedback and let us know how it worked out?
The only thing I see the seller did wrong was not block you after the first sale fell through. Over 2 weeks to pay is a little ridiculous.
Trey, For the most part I agree with what you say, and commend you for taking the time to establish and maintain communication with a seller before pulling the trigger. The problem with the OP, if I read his thread correctly, was he waited four days after the auction ended, never initiated communication with the seller, then asked for an additional 14 days before making payment when the seller contacted him. I do however, disagree with this part of your post: Why would you look at an eBay seller any differently that any other vendor? The TV on sale at Walmart isn't a life threatening emergency, but see if they would let you buy the TV and pay for it later. They may (it's called Layaway) but don't expect them to hold it very long without payment, and don't expect to get away without an initial, immediate deposit. So why is eBay any different?
I agree with you...but it is a little different and here is why. Many eBay sales are auction based. The buyer isn't sitting in front of the computer right when the auction ends and thus immediate payment can't really be expected. I would certainly think payment within 24 hours is certainly reasonable though. For BIN items, I see no reason why immediate payment shouldn't occur.
Until we can confirm that he is both dead and a horse, the show must go on. Here is some "mustache porn"...
