Back from NGC

    The 1590 is choice for the type. The 1857 I felt was ever better in grade and PL in hand. Will need to get a better image.

    1590-KB. Hungary. Rudolf II Taler. NGC MS-63

    Thanks for sharing these amazing examples.
    What do you think is the reason for the MS-65 grade? NGC obviously thought so for some reason...

    And why the title "Vereinsthaler"?

    I may send in for reconsideration on next submission. I have seen many of these common circulated Thalers, yet never this choice.

    European auction house agreed with my assessment and NGC was perhaps a tad conservative. As always, the slab doesn't drive the purchase as the coin speaks for itself.

    I totally agree => that Rudy is a very sweet example!!

    ... man, the double-headed eagle is a great reverse (it is very cool that the reverse is similar on both of your examples => 267 years apart)
