Ok, the bullion "investing" forum, I understand where you're coming from. But what's wrong with the error forum, other than people posting damaged coins and not listening when they're told that's all they are?
I don't know why member can't handle what Jim is saying, just don't talk about people and stick to the coin with the options . That's not hard to understand .............
I'm totally okay with that, as long as we don't start calling people counterfeiters. If I had the means, I'd be sorely tempted to start overstriking coins, just so I could come after everyone calling me a counterfeiter.
There's a big difference, these pieces will never be listed on any error site and real errors are always commented on, why, because their on the error sites ..
My thinking is that many collectors wouldn't be all that interested in a token forum (like myself). For example, I don't think I've ever even looked at the Bullion Investing forum... ever. I love Coin Chat and U.S. Coins, but DC bullion pieces are not coins.
I don't know anyone that has ever argued they're error coins. But yes one of the reference guides does include his work though I can't remember the name of it at the moment.
This sounds kinda petty. And one of the reasons I hold a personal belief that DC revels in this drama, thinking any press is good press. Most of it would go away if he clearly signed his work. Then they wouldn't look exactly like real Morgan Dollars, Walking Liberty Halves, etc.
It wouldn't go away. It might satisfy you, but at least 75% of his detractors won't quit until he's either been sued successfully under the HPA/CCPA, convicted of counterfeiting, or he puts a big ol' incuse COPY on his pieces.
Well, in my opinion, a lot of the fuss would go away of he signed all his work. The thought process being, "it is much less likely to deceive."
Likelihood of deception is irrelevant to the people who take the position that these pieces are counterfeits or in violation of the HPA/CCPA. The 1968 dime is more deceptive than these pieces.
I don't take a legal stance on DC... never have from what I can recall. I just want to protect the hobby from deception.
I'm not one to start legal papers flying. But if someone did start that process against me, I would start filing as well. And if my fantasy-date over-strikes were ruled to be not "counterfeits", that could spell legal trouble for this site and one or more participants here.
Have you seen his "circulated XF" pieces? They look like the real deal. I bet if you threw one in a pile of circulated Walkers, standing lib 25c, etc, no one could pick it out. And if someone inherited that pile of coins, and discovered that date wasn't in the Redbook or whatever, you can bet it would end up on eBay as a "ONE OF A KIND!" for $3 million dollars.
