Curious, Jango? => is Baby actually a "black parrot" (I mean even though it is obviously green, is your sweet bird classified as a black parrot?) ... => by the way, it is a very cool/cute lookin' bird
Thanks Steve! His species is the Monk Parakeet (Quaker Parrot). They are an introduced species in several parts of the US including south Florida, although I received Baby from a breeder. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monk_parakeet
ahhh, that's right (I had black parrot stuck in my head) ... he's very cool Cheers (have great night ... oh, and holiday season!!)
I mentioned it in a post some time ago that due to budget concerns I was not ultimately able to acquire the coin in my OP but instead used what I did save up towards my Vandalic Honorius siliqua. But I did end up making a deal for this other Gepid quarter-siliqua. Not in as good shape as the one I originally went for but it is still a very wonderful-looking coin and no less interesting history-wise (plus it was cheaper in price than the other coin).
Actually the artistry on both the above coins is pretty good. I wouldn't mind having something like these.
"uber-rare" might be a bit of an exaggeration. 212 examples on Coinarchives, almost entirely quarter siliquae like this one.
Nice ol' thread, resurrected ... Cool coins, gents ... => Jango & Noob ... ummm, maybe? ... I'd probably watch that TV Show!? ... awww, memories, eh? (38 years ago, I was sitting on the couch at Mum & Dad's, havin' a smoke without a care in the world) ... good times *whatev* ... okay, they're my cool memories (gotcha)
Yeah I know. Guess I was a little too excited then. Seeing several offered this year alone now I know they are more common than I had originally thought.
You definitely should get one if you have the chance. A primarily Roman collection like yours can benefit from having something from post-Roman barbarian Europe. Kind of like an epilogue to a good book.
